The All-India Senior Selection Committee has decided to send all-rounder Vijay Shankar and batsman Shubman Gill as replacements for suspended cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul .

Vijay Shankar will join the team before the start of the 2nd ODI in Adelaide. He will be a part of the squad for the ODI series in Australia and the tour to New Zealand. Shubman Gill has been picked for the ODI and T20I series in New Zealand.

KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya are scheduled to return home from Australia having been suspended pending an inquiry into their sexist comments on a TV show. The duo have been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Australia.

This is the first time 19-year-old Gill has been included in India’s limited-overs’ squad. He had an impressive first-class season, wherein he has racked up more than 1000 runs in 9 matches. He had equally outstanding Ranji Trophy where he slammed 790 runs in 10 innings at a Bradmanseque average of 98.75

Earlier in the week, Gill had spoken to The Indian Express and revealed his goal of 2019. “2018 was a good year for me with a lot of new things to learn and what I am looking in 2019 is to play for India. That is the main goal for me,” Gill said.

Vijay Shankar, on the other hand, was a part of the Indian squad in the Nidhas Trophy, last year. He had a brilliant outing in India A’s recent-concluded tour to New Zealand. The, 27-year-old cricketer, is a middle-order batsman from Tamil Nadu who can also bowl medium pace. He has represented India in five T20Is.
