CWI B team overhauled the target of 184 with just five balls to spare.
Montreal, who opted to bat, were off to a fine start, with Sunil Narine (28) and Dwayne Smith (16) sharing an opening stand of 51. Louis, who came into the reckoning after bagging a five-wicket haul for Leeward Islands versus Barbados in Windies’ four-day competition last season, dismissed Narine. McCoy, the left-arm pacer from Windward Islands, then sent Smith back to the hut as Montreal were reduced to 56 for 2.
Sikandar Raza (47), the Zimbabwe batsman, and the New South Wales all-rounder, Moises Henriques (26), essayed timely hands in the middle order to ensure Montreal ended up with a sizeable total. Meanwhile, McCoy and Louis shared three spoils between and gave away just 14 runs in the last two overs of the innings to plug the scoring rate to some extent. Louis and McCoy were well supported by Sherfane Rutherford, the promising Guyanese all-rounder, and Khary Pierre, the Trinidad and Tobago left-arm spinner.
In pursuit of a substantial target, Anthony Bramble, the captain of the CWI B side, was dislodged for no score by Peter Siddle. Rutherford (22) and King, however, strung together a quickfire stand of 39 before Narine accounted for the wicket of the former. After the fall of Rutherford, King and Pooran joined forces to share a partnership of 76 for the third wicket. Siddle and George Worker bagged the scalps of Pooran and King respectively. Lasith Malinga and Sandeep Lamichhane also took three wickets between them, and Raza ran out David Green for no score to keep Montreal in the hunt.
Lamichhane, in particular, made a fine comeback after being hit for 56 in his first three by giving away just one run in the penultimate over to leave CWI B with three runs required off the final over. However, Shamar Springer (27*) kept his cool and launched Worker for a six off the first ball of the last over to provide the finishing touches.
Montreal have lost both their matches so far and find themselves at the bottom of the table, while CWIB are placed third with two points.
