Two militants were killed in a shootout in north Kashmir’s Baramulla. Earlier in the day, the Army killed three infiltrators in the district.
A police spokesman told The Hindu the two militants were travelling in a vehicle and fired upon a checkpoint when directed to stop at Baramulla’s Kralhaar area on the Srinagar-Baramulla national highway. “They were in a SUV. It was asked to stop at a joint checkpoint of the police and CRPF. However, the militants opened fire. In the exchange of fire, both the militants were killed,” the spokesman said.
The police said it was a brief shootout. One AK rifle, two Chinese pistols and ammunition were recovered from the site of shootout, the police said.
A case has been registered in the incident. The identity of the slain militants and their affiliations could not be established immediately.
3 infiltrators killed in Baramulla
Earlier in the day, the Army said an infiltration bid was foiled and three militants have been killed in an ongoing operation in north Kashmir’s Baramulla.
An Army spokesman said the infiltration was foiled in Baramulla’s Rampur on Thursday. “Three militants have been killed so far. The operation is in progress,” said the spokesman.
He said alert troops noticed some suspicious movement along the LoC near Tourna in Boniyar area in the early hours of Thursday and challenged the infiltrators.
The infiltrators opened fire towards the positions of the security forces which was retaliated, he said, adding three terrorists were killed in the gunbattle.
