Prelude – Can Australia keep the series going?
They’ll surely hope so.
They’ve been ordinary in the two games so far, and will turn to the returning Billy Stanlake to keep their batting-heavy opponents in check. But that’s easier said than done though. At this same venue, Alex Hales smashed his way to 171 of England’s 444, which is the highest-ever ODI total. Our correspondent in Nottingham, Vithushan, isn’t giving Australia much of a chance though. Here’s his preview.
Talking of Hales, he fronted the media yesterday and offered a few quotable quotes. He went for one armed with a lot of optimism. “If I could pick a venue to bat at, this would be it,” he says. Understandable. He has scores of 5 and 26 in the series so far, but he’ll hope the venue which gave him his best evening in England ODI colours, will enable him to up the ante.
Over in the Australia side of things, it isn’t all gloom afterall. Shaun Marsh scored a fine century in the second ODI and Aaron Finch, who batted at No. 5 in the second game, is open to staying put there. It makes room for D’Arcy Short to slot in at the top, but there’s a problem – Finch fell for a four-ball duck in Cardiff. He might have do a little more to make this top-order adjustment to work in Australia’s favour.
