Pakistan scored 133/7 when batting first against India at the ICC Women’s World T20 but India were given a luxury of 10 bonus runs.

India women began their chase of 134 runs against Pakistan in the second group game at the ICC Women’s World T20 from a 10/0 score. The luxury of extra runs was made possible due to Pakistan’s repeated infractions of running down the danger line of the pitch in Guyana. Pakistan were twice handed a penalty for the error and were made to pay.
ICC’s playing conditions for the World T20 calls for a single warning from the umpires to the batters for encroaching the protected area of the track, before the team is penalised five runs for the next offence.
Nida Dar and Bismah Maroof, who both hit half-centuries to take Pakistan out of a pit early on, were initially warned by the umpires after the 13th over for running on the danger area. On the first ball of the 18th over, Pakistan were penalised for the first time and the second penalty arrived on the last ball of the innings.
It also meant that Pakistan’s two singles on the respective deliveries were not counted – thus reducing their eventual total of 135/7 to 133/7. Despite Pakistan accumulating their highest total in an ICC Women’s World T20 match, India effectively needed only 124 runs and got there with seven-wickets to spare.
Speaking after their loss, Javeria Khan, the Pakistan captain, said her team had been warned three times. “I had a chat with the umpires and they told me that they warned the player thrice, and after warning three times, they gave the penalty. It’s unprofessionalism on our part that after being warned, we were still on the danger area. This is an area we should look at, because it has not happened the first time, it’s [happened] in the past in the Sri Lanka series as well. We should seriously look into this because these are the things that cost you the game,” Khan said.
Player of the Match Mithali Raj said India too were warned for the same reason but were careful not to repeat it. “We were told before getting into bat that the 10 runs [would be added],” said Raj. “The Pakistan batters were warned, and so were we, but we didn’t get to that point [of a penalty].”
Later, in the second T20I on the day, Ireland were punished five runs for the same offense against Australia.
