Here’s how you can now get a passport from anywhere in India

Facilitating easy application for passport, the government has eased the process as a person can now apply from anywhere in India.

For instance, a resident of Patna working in Mumbai can now apply for a passport at his nearest Regional Passport Office or Passport Seva Kendra or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra irrespective of his residential address falling under the jurisdiction of that particular office.

The police verification will be conducted at the address mentioned in the application form and once made the passport will be despatched at the given address.


The new rules were launched by external affais minister Sushma Swaraj on the occasion of Sixth Passport Seva Divas.

A mobile app mPassport Seva for Android and iOS was also launched by the minister making it easier for applying, paying and scheduling an appointment. The users can track status of their passport applications using file number and date of birth.For dispatched passports, the delivery status can also be tracked.

Describing the changes made to the process of acquisition of passport as revolutionary, the minister said that 77 Passport Seva Kendras were made available in the last 48 years while 231 more were added in the last 48 months, PTI reported.
