Jammu and Kashmir, August 9: In an encounter that took place yesterday in J&K’s Baramulla, another terrorist was later gunned down by security forces, taking the total toll of terrorists killed to 5. Reports said that the firing began in the Rafiabad area of Baramulla yesterday morning.

It must be noted that on Tuesday, four Army personnel, including one major and three soldiers, were killed while trying to prevent militants from infiltrating into north Kashmir’s Gurez. At least two militants were also killed in the encounter. The deceased were identified as Major KP Rane, hawaldars Jamie Singh and Vikramjeet and rifleman Mandeep.

The Gurez encounter came just within a week’s time after one such took place between the security forces and terrorists in Killora Village of Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir, wherein at least five terrorists were killed. The bodies of all the terrorists were recovered by the security forces.

In recent months, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a huge spurt in terror activities. On May 23, six civilians were injured in the grenade attack at Bijbehara town of Anantnag district. Within the next two days, two policemen and a civilian were injured in a similar attack at a bus stand on Jammu’s BC road.

Meanwhile, an intelligence agency has warned that Pakistan based terror groups — Lashkar-a-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) are planning to launch Pathankot style attack on India ahead of the Independence Day, a report said. As per reports, the terrorists will target Indian Naval Base and for this, they are being given underwater attack training and deep sea techniques to attack the Navy.
