India have named an unchanged 12-man squad for the second ODI against the West Indies to be played in Vizag on Wednesday (October 21). India lead the five-match ODI series 1-0 after registering a comfortable 8-wicket win in the opener in Guwahati on Sunday.
The Indian team management have decided not to tinker with a 12-man team that ensured chasing down a 323 run target with almost eight overs to go in Baraspara Cricket Stadium. The playing XI, however, will be announced by captain Virat Kohli at the toss.
In the opening ODI, West Indies scored 322 runs in 50 overs and looked set to open their account in India after being thoroughly dispatched in the two Tests. However, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had other ideas. They stitched a 246 run partnership for the second wicket and India reached the finishing line with 47 balls to spare. Kohli was dismissed for 140 while Rohit remained unbeaten on 152 with Ambati Rayudu (22*) for company.
With their blistering tons played without much of an effort, Kohli and Rohit both created multiple records. Kohli’s fourth ODI century in 2018 was his 36th overall and took his international centuries (in Tests and ODIs) to a combined 60. He reached the landmark in 386 innings – 40 fewer than Sachin Tendulkar.
Rohit on the other hand, became the fourth Indian to score four ODI centuries in a calendar year. Before him, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Kohli had reached the landmark in ODI cricket.
The duo recorded the highest partnership while batting second in ODIs and the 246 run stand was also the second-highest second wicket partnership in ODIs.
India 12-man squad: Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ambati Rayudu, Rishabh Pant, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Khaleel Ahmed (12th man).
