Top office-bearers of the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) including its president Ronkiln John, secretary Jayesh George and joint secretary Syed Ziabuddeen resigned at the Special General Meeting of the state cricket body in Alappuzha on Saturday.

A new interim-committee with Sajan K Varghese (Pathanamthitta) as president and Sreejith V Nair (Alappuzha) as secretary has been formed to look after the day-to-day administration of KCA till the Supreme Court gives its final order on the Lodha panel recommendations and elections are held to the state cricket association.
The official reason given for the sudden resignation of some of the office-bearers are that since the KCA decided to comply with the Lodha reforms, some of the current office-bearers came under the cooling-off clause and were ineligible to continue in their posts. The others who vacated their seats from KCA on Saturday are Nazir Machan (vice president) and U Manoj (assistant secretary). Current vice-president of KCA Rejith Rajendran has been named the joint-secretary while another vice-president KM Abdul Rahman will be the treasurer in the new interim-committee. Jayesh George will be the KCA nominee in BCCI meetings.

Though KCA is citing Lodha reforms as the reason for the change of guard, several allegations of corruption and nepotism were raised against outgoing secretary Jayesh before the SGM began. Heated debates preceded the meeting with some of the members loyal to TC Mathew questioning the inquiry committee findings against former president and the ombudsman’s order against him. They questioned how the inquiry committee report against former KCA president TC Mathew was leaked and circulated on social media platforms even before it was tabled in appropriate forums of the state association. However, Jayesh denied the allegations. “I cannot comment on baseless allegations. But some members had some pointed queries. I gave my clarification and I think they were satisfied. The KCA was struggling to get funds from BCCI for last year and a half. So the question of corruption doesn’t arise at all,” said Jayesh.
Indications are that the mudslinging in KCA is only going to intensify as they know that elections are around the corner.
