International Day of Yoga, unofficially also known as Yoga Day is celebrated every year on 21st of June since it was declared so by the United Nations General Assembly.
21st June is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special significance at many places and thus was selected to be the Yoga Day. The idea of celebrating Yoga Day was suggested by our current Prime Minister PM Modi at the United Nation General Assembly.
Yoga in Sanskrit means, “to join”. Yoga aims to join your mind and body with your soul. On this 4th Yoga Day, more than 60,000 participants will perform yoga in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Dehradun. Apart from Dehradun, the day will also be celebrated at every district headquarters, block and gram panchayat.
In Delhi, more than 10,000 people are expected to join Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, Delhi Lieutenant Government Anil Baijal and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to perform yoga on International Day of Yoga in the National Capital Region.
The NDMC will be organising yoga day programmes on International Yoga Dayin the capital at Lodhi Garden. Nehru Park, Talkatora Stadium, Children’s Park and Connaught Place.
