In a session where only 5.5 overs were possible, Windies played a slightly more enterprising brand of cricket from what they had put on display in the first session to move to 92 for 1 at Tea on Day 2.
Rain halted play twice in the second session, first of which came just before the end of Lunch break. Lahiru Kumara and Suranga Lakmal continued to bowl testing lines, but Kieran Powell and Devon Smith remained steady. They showed a bit of intent, one of which included the former slashing Lahiru Kumara over point for a six.

However, having picked quick 27 runs in the second session of play, rain came to stop the action again.
Earlier in the day, Kraigg Brathwaite and Smith put on a half-century stand for the opening wicket. The duo braced through some good bowling by Lakmal and Kumara to survive and despite a sedate approach, helped the hosts off to a steady start in response to Sri Lanka’s first innings score of 253.

There were a few close LBW appeals, but none went the way of the visitors. Eventually, it was Rajitha who got Sri Lanka their first breakthrough as also helped himself to his maiden Test wicket with an incoming delivery that squared up Brathwaite and kissed the edge of his bat en route the ‘keeper’s gloves.
Brief Scores: Sri Lanka 253 lead Windies 92/1 (Devon Smith 45*; Kasun Rajitha 1-18) by 157 runs.
