CM Yogi Slams Akbar, Praises Mewar King Maharana Pratap.

New Delhi, June 15: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has claimed that Mewar king Maharana Pratap from 16th century holds the eminence of being great while refusing to accept that the same holds true for Akbar, who was the third Mughal emperor.

Yogi was addressing a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) gathering to celebrate Mewar king’s birthday celebrations on Thursday when he said, “Maharana Pratap proved it was not Akbar who was great but only Maharana Pratap was great by ultimately winning back his forts.” During the event, RSS also brought out a special edition of its magazine- Avadh Prahri.

Referring to the 1576 Haldighati battle, Yogi said that it was not important who won the battle. “It is important that Maharana Pratap fought it for several years in the hills of Aravalli with his self-respect and ultimately won back his forts,” an Indian Express report quoted the Chief Minister as saying. Yogi asserted that Pratap had set an example of bravery as the fight was not a one-day thing, but went on for years.

The Chief Minister said that Akbar asked Pratap to accept him as the king. Adityanath quoted Pratap as saying that, “I cannot accept Akbar as the king… he is a Turk and he will remain so… he will hurt our self-respect in the garb of friendship… we cannot accept a foreigner as a king.”

Earlier, there were reports that the Yogi-led government has been considering to rename Allahabad as ‘Prayag’. Reportedly, it is a long pending demand of sadhus in the city.
